Rangers, Knicks Playoff Appearances Good Sign for MSG Stock
April 13th 2011 04:03
A couple of weeks ago, I came across an article that mentioned a dark horse stock: Madison Square Garden (MSG). Mainly, it cited the New York Knicks rise back to prominence as its primary beneficiary.
I didn’t really give it another thought until just recently, when I realized that both the NBA’s New York Knicks and the NHL’s New York Rangers were going to be in the playoffs for the first time together since 1996-97.
As some of my readers may know, I am a huge hockey and New York Rangers fan, but really just a New York City fan in general.
MSG closed today at 28.96, and since the NHL playoffs start tomorrow, now is the perfect time to buy. According to an article on Bloomberg.com, the arena could make up to $15 million for every round both teams advance.
Now, this is a little bit of sports gambling on top of investing, since neither the Rangers or Knicks are favorites, but there are four home games guaranteed at MSG this postseason, and it’s a good bet at least one team may advance (I’ve got my money on the Rangers).
NBA games are likely to generate a little more revenue than NHL games, but any additional matches in NYC will create a substantial increase in MSG’s cash flow. Buy this stock if you’re looking for a short time gain.
