Results From The Great Depression

David Silverman, posting in the Harvard Business Publishing blog, has an interesting story about businesses which were started during the Great Depression. See if any of these names sound familiar:
Motorola
Hewlett-Packard
Xerox
Ryder
Unisys
Texas Instruments
Revlon
Converse
La-Z-Boy
Interstate Bakeries (makers of Twinkies)
The Pittsburgh Steelers (one of the few franchises to survive from that time)
Can you imagine how different our lives would be today if these businesses had not been around for the last seventy years?
With so many people bemoaning the poor economic conditions today, what spark of ingenuity will be talked about seventy years from now as being as involved in daily life? Is this a good time to start a business?
