A Homage to Bandwagon Fans
March 2nd 2011 21:37
This post is for the bandwagon fans out there. It is for those of us that grew up with no respect for our new team's past and probably couldn't name a single player before they became an elite organization.
I can not understand why the outside world has such disdain for us. We really mean no harm. Sure we only root for the Heat now that we have LeBron, the Packers now that Rodgers replaced Favre, the Penguins now that we have Crosby, and the Rays now that we have Longoria, but why is that so wrong?
I understand the inclination to label us as ignorant and disloyal, but I must argue with you. Aren't we what the professional sports entertainment industry is all about? We reward good teams with profits and punish bad teams with neglect.
In fact, we are the "regular" ones; we follow the economic norms. You, on the other hand, "loyal" fan, are the exception to the rule. You see, us bandwagoners see sports teams for what they really are, an investment. And why should we continue to invest in a plummeting stock? While you continue to pour your hard earned bills into a poorly run organization, we provide incentives for our teams to achieve success. After all, these are businesses and in the end, profits are their goal.
So please, "true" fan, keep wasting money watching overpaid athletes underperform. I'll save my money for a sunny day, and my team will benefit in the end.
Go Knicks!
